Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 1, 2014) – Josh Baughman is optimistic going into this weekend’s races following a challenging week.

Baughman and his Jason Johnson Racing team are slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

“I like that track,” he said. “It’s a fast track around the top in turns three and four and around the bottom in turns one and two. I’m real confident going into this weekend.”

Baughman, who finished second in his heat race and recorded a sixth-place result during his lone race at Battleground Speedway last season, is looking forward to the change of pace after last weekend.

The roller-coaster week was capped last Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway for the second race of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader, which was postponed one week because of weather.

“We stuck to what we do best and drew last,” he said. “The track stayed locked down all night long. We fought the car all night long trying to get it free enough to get around the track.”

Baughman finished his heat race where he started – seventh – on the fast half-mile track. He then advanced from seventh to sixth place in the B Main, which transferred him to the back of the 30-lap main event.

“The first 25 laps we were still way too tight,” he said. “Maybe if it was a 50-lap race we’d have been ok. I was happy to see that night be over.”

Baughman rallied to end with a 16th-place result.

“We made the show and we’re getting better and learning some things, but we just fought the car,” he said. “We had a pretty tough week. Just to get through the race with the car in one piece was an accomplishment.”
