Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Nov. 20, 2014) – Josh Baughman wrapped up the 2014 season last weekend by making his debut at Cocopah Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“It didn’t go as well as we would have liked,” he said. “We fought high pill draws both nights, which made it tough. It seemed like you had to make something happen on the opening lap of your heat race if you were going make any moves.”

Baughman started on the fourth row of his heat race both nights at the 3/8-mile oval.

On Friday, he finished where he started – eighth. That relegated him to a 13th starting position in a B Main.

“You have to be constantly passing cars when you are starting that far back in a heat race or a B Main,” he said. “We weren’t able to maneuver through the field like we needed to earn a transfer.”

Baughman’s night ended with an 11th-place finish in the consolation race.

He improved from seventh to sixth place during a heat race on Saturday. Unfortunately, that put him in the fourth row of a B Main.

“We picked up a couple of positions on the start and I was up to fifth for a while,” he said. “Only three cars transferred so I was trying everything I could to pass a couple more cars. I changed my line and ended up getting passed by a car toward the end.”

Baughman placed sixth.

“I’m excited to take what we learned when we return to Cocopah Speedway, which will hopefully be in January for the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown,” he said. “We didn’t get the results we wanted last weekend, but I think we gained some good knowledge that will help in the future.”

Baughman ended the season with two feature victories overall and he ranked 12th in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings despite a limited schedule with the series.
