Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 6, 2016) – Josh Baughman had a fast race car throughout the 38th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals last weekend.

Baughman competed in both the National Sprint League and Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour classes during the three-day event at Jackson Motorplex.

The action began on Friday when Baughman advanced from eighth to fourth place in an ASCS National Tour heat race. That ranked him 11th in overall points out of 39 competitors, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

Baughman battled inside the top 10 for most of the race and he was running eighth on the final lap when a mechanical problem resulted in a DNF.

“We were on pace for a solid top 10 and we just needed to make it one more lap,” he said.

Baughman switched to his 410ci sprint car on Saturday for the NSL preliminary night, when he opened the competition by qualifying 12th quickest before placing fourth in a heat race. That locked Baughman into the feature, where he raced around the 10th position throughout the feature before ending 11th.

The AGCO Jackson Nationals concluded on Sunday when Baughman was unable to finish his National Sprint League heat race or start the NSL main event because of a mechanical problem.

Fortunately, things went smoother in the ASCS class. Baughman charged from sixth to third place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the highest number – eight – during the random draw to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“Early on until that last caution I felt like we had a top three,” he said. “We were battling with Sam Hafertepe Jr. for a long time and then Aaron Reutzel got by both of us. I was able to pass Hafertepe Jr. toward the end, but wasn’t able to get by Kerry Madsen for a spot on the podium.”

Baughman finished fourth, which was his 14th top five of the season.

“For the most part I had a great time all weekend,” he said. “I want to race there more next year.”
