Inside Line Promotions – OSBORN, Mo. (Sept. 20, 2016) – Josh Baughman earned his second-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result last weekend during a Midwest doubleheader that also featured the National Sprint League.

Baughman kicked off the action on Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout. He qualified sixth quickest before placing second in a heat race. That locked him into the 10th starting position for the main event.

“I thought we had a pretty solid night,” he said. “We were battling for a top 10, but I spun out and kept it going. We salvaged a 14th-place finish.”

Baughman battled back from the miscue to end 14th, which was only one position away from tying his career-best Outlaws result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at U.S. 36 Raceway for the FVP Missouri High-Banked Nationals. Baughman timed in 14th quickest during qualifying before he finished fifth in a heat race. That started him on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“I lost my front wing so I pulled off about halfway,” he said. “It was fast and rough so we felt fortunate to load up everything in one piece.”

Baughman was credited with an 18th-place finish.

“All in all, it was a good weekend,” he said. “Going into an Outlaw race, these guys race 90 to 100 races a year. They are never out of the seat. Your expectations aren’t as high. You might try some things you probably wouldn’t try and you work on things you don’t have the opportunity to do when you’re racing for points with another series. It gave us an opportunity to try some things. We learned more from the driver aspect than the setup. I learn 10 times more when I’m with the Outlaws. You can’t take one lap, one corner, one straightaway off. It makes you stay up on the wheel.”

Baughman will return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition this Thursday through Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Hockett/McMillin Memorial. He has results of third and 14th, respectively, at Lucas Oil Speedway this season.
