Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 16, 2017) – Josh Baughman scored his third top-five finish of the season last Thursday to open a busy weekend in the Midwest.

The action started on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., where Baughman won a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race after lining up on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“You needed a good draw at Lakeside,” he said. “We passed a couple of cars on a heavy track. We took what we were given. We had a fast car. It was whoever got to the first turn first all night long. The track was pretty heavy. To finish fourth is not bad at all.”

Baughman advanced two positions to end fourth. He ranks eighth in the ASCS National Tour championship standings, but is only 49 points out of fourth place.

The team brought out the 410ci winged sprint car on Friday for the Spring Nationals at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., where Baughman timed in third quickest in his group before he placed fourth in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“We were up to eighth and someone nearly spun in front of us and we had to run off the end of the track,” he said. “We rebounded to finish 13th. The results don’t show it, but that was a pretty good night.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Badlands Motor Speedway during the Folkens Brothers Silver Shootout. Baughman qualified second quickest at the bullring before he placed fourth in a heat race. That lined him up 10th in the main event.

“We started off good at Badlands,” he said. “We were just off in the A Main. We just missed it. We never got comfortable once the track got slick. I should have took what we had and stayed there, but I tried for more and it cost us.”

Baughman was battling for a top 10 early in the race before a pair of incidents resulted in a DNF.

He is scheduled to take this weekend off before resuming ASCS National Tour competition on May 27 at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo., and May 28 at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo.
