Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (June 15, 2017) – Josh Baughman produced a pair of top fives and a trio of top 10s during the first half of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.

The action began last Friday at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas. Baughman finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race before he maneuvered from 13th to a ninth-place result in the main event.

Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, hosted Round 2 on Saturday. Baughman ended fourth in a heat race to start the main event on the outside of the sixth row. Despite the track taking rubber early in the A Main, Baughman rallied to a fifth-place result.

The team ventured to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Tuesday. Baughman picked up a position to finish fifth in a heat race, which relegated him to a B Main. He ended third in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the main event. The night closed with an 18th-place finish.

“The common theme the first three nights of the ASCS Speedweek is that we didn’t do well enough in our heat race to set ourselves up to win,” he said. “We battled back in main events, but we were buried too far back. We did a better job at Lawton and the main event result showed.”

Baughman won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to open Wednesday’s show at Lawton Speedway. He then advanced from fifth to third place in a qualifier to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“We were in contention and that’s all you can ask for,” he said. “Of course we want to win the race, but we were competitive all night long and came out of there with a podium so it was a solid night.”

Baughman’s third-place result moved him to seventh in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings – only 71 points out of third place.

Speedweek resumes on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., before Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., hosts a race on Friday. Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., is the site of the finale on Saturday.
