Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (July 11, 2017) – Josh Baughman recorded his first feature victory of the season last Sunday when he capped a strong return to racing after a much needed break.

“We really struggled in June and to come off our break with good finishes was huge,” he said. “We had a lot of balance all weekend, which was something we had been struggling with.”

Last weekend began on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where Baughman competed in both the 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car classes.

“We didn’t start off real well in qualifying and we didn’t get the 410 car running well until the A Main,” he said.

Baughman qualified 21st quickest before he placed sixth in a heat race in the 410 division. That relegated him toward the back of the main event. However, Baughman rallied to post a 14th-place finish.

The 360 car produced stronger results throughout the night as Baughman timed in 15th quickest before he ended second in a heat race. He then maneuvered from 12th to fifth in the A Main.

“I felt like we were really good,” he said. “Our 360 program there has been solid. We just need to get back there and get laps. After this coming weekend we’re planning on being at Knoxville weekly throughout the Knoxville Nationals.”

Last weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Double X Speedway, where Baughman advanced from fourth to win a heat race. That ranked him second in overall points, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“The guys gave me a great car,” he said. “We made solid laps and didn’t make mistakes. To pass (Jonathan) Cornell was huge. He led the first eight laps. We got to traffic and he made a couple of mistakes. Once we got by him I didn’t see him again. We hit our marks every lap.

“It was pretty cool. Anytime you can beat Cornell at Double X you feel like you’ve done something.”

The win was Baughman’s first career at the track.

He will return to action this Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
