Inside Line Promotions – MASON CITY, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2017) – Josh Baughman capped last weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader in Iowa with a sixth-place result on Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway.

The night began with Baughman advancing from third to second place in a heat race. That earned enough points to make the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 4 to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“There wasn’t much passing all night,” he said. “The track took rubber and the bottom lane was definitely preferred. We tried to run the first lap around the top to keep our momentum and it didn’t work so we fell in line and ran there the rest of the race.”

Baughman lost a couple of positions early and battled for a top five throughout the remainder of the race before ending sixth.

The weekend began the previous night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where Baughman qualified 22nd quickest in his group to start the ASCS National Tour event.

“I made a couple of mistakes and ran the wrong line,” he said. “It dug us in a pretty deep hole. We kept going and made it in the A Main out of a solid field. We managed to go from 12th to second in the B Main to lock ourselves in. We had a good run going in the A Main and I went to pass a guy and knocked the nose wing down so we pulled in early.”

Baughman finished seventh in a heat race before charging from 12th to second place in a B Main to garner a transfer into the back of the main event. He then maneuvered to around 13th when the nose wing problem relegated him to the pits midway through the race. Baughman was credited with a 17th-place result.

He will return to Knoxville Raceway this Thursday through Saturday for the 27th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

“I feel like we have a lot of momentum on the 360 side,” he said. “We had a good run going last year until a mechanical problem. Our goal this year is a top 10 and I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that.”

Baughman placed a career-best third during his 360 Knoxville Nationals preliminary night last year and he was in contention for at least another podium during the finale before the mechanical problem.
