Inside Line Promotions – SPENCER, Iowa (Sept. 19, 2017) – Josh Baughman had a strong night going last Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway.

“We started out by qualifying sixth quickest and we moved forward in the heat race so everything was going well,” he said. “Qualifying well is key and sets up the rest of your night so that was crucial that we timed in well.”

Baughman advanced from third to second place in a heat race following the strong qualifying effort. That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 8 to start the IRA Sprint Car Series main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“I was racing hard with another guy and we got into the turn at a slick time,” he said. “When we entered turns three and four he came down when I was going up. To keep from causing a wreck I spun it out. Another driver got into us and it knocked the Jacob’s Ladder out.”

Baughman was battling for a top five early in the race when the crash occurred. He restarted at the back, but pulled in several laps later because of the ill-handling race car. Baughman was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

“It was a bummer to not get the feature result after having a good start to the night and being in contention to open the main event,” he said. “We’ll take the positive out of the night and move on.”

Saturday’s IRA Sprint Car Series event at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., rained out to end the weekend early.

Baughman is slated to return to action this Thursday through Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the 7th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“It’s always good to be able to race at the same track three nights in a row so that you can see the results of adjustments you make night by night,” he said. “We’ve had some good runs there and I think we will be a contender this weekend. It’d be pretty special to win the Hockett/McMillin Memorial.”
