Lonnie Wheatley, WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 20, 2019) – Josh Baughman and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 17 Sprint Car team got off to a strong start at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial by racing to a top-five finish in Thursday night’s opening leg of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Wheatland, Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway.
The Odessa, TX, native kicked off the evening by winning the first of eight heat races and then secured the third starting position for the 25-lap feature by racing from fourth to second in his qualifying race.
Baughman finished out the night by racing to a fifth-place finish in the feature event to escape the night fifth in event points.
The second of three ASCS National Tour nights at the Hockett/McMillin Memorial takes place on Friday with Baughman vying for another strong outing to secure a position among the top eight in Saturday night’s finale after points from the two preliminary nights are tallied.
It was Baughman’s second ASCS National Tour top-five of the year in just four feature starts after posting a fourth-place run at Cameron, Missouri’s U.S. 36 Raceway in the series season-opening weekend.
